Valero Crude Charge Heater

Valero Corporation’s St. Charles Refinery is one of the newer refineries in the U.S., with its major process units built in the 1980s. The plant produces approximately 250,000 barrels per day of a range of petroleum products, including gasoline, kerosene, diesel, fuel and heating oils, and LPG.

Since its purchase of St. Charles in 2003, Valero has executed upgrades totaling over $3 billion, improving the facility’s capacity and its ability to process heavy feedstocks. The plant has also been awarded several safety awards.

Primoris has performed a series of critical engineering and construction projects at the St. Charles Refinery. These projects included upgrades to the plant’s coker heaters, design engineering and supply of furnaces for its coker diesel heater, an HCGO heater, an LCO combined-feed heater and a product fractionator reboiler and the DHT heater in.

Primoris was also asked by Valero to design and supply a 500-million BTU/hr charge heater for the heavy crude unit. Our work included the engineering and design of:
