BP Refinery - Fluid Feed Hydro Desulfurization System (FFHDS)

Location: Carson, California

BP Refinery turned to Primoris  for installation of a new reactor, reactor piping and ancillary equipment for its expansion of the FFHDS unit at Carson, California. The work included site preparation, relocation and installation of underground utilities, erection of the structural steel tower, erection of the lifting steel and equipment, and coordination of the setting of the new 800 ton reactor. The work also included heavy wall carbon and alloy piping, electrical and instrumentation, insulation, new pipe racks and skids.

The challenging civil work included the installation of cast-in-place piles, and setting forty 2-1/2” - diameter by 16 ft anchor bolts to receive the new reactor tower base. The anchor bolts fit perfectly, facilitating a smooth operation in setting the new reactor. Once the reactor was set, Primoris  removed the erection support steel and equipment and completed the permanent steel structure.
