Southern California Edison - Tule Flume

Location: Springville, California

This project replaced a wooden trestle flume system damaged by a forest fire with a new 48-inch steel pipeline.

The scope of work included significant environmental restrictions to the point that Primoris  crews were only allowed 20 feet of right-of-way to perform the work and no vehicle access was allowed even though the project is located approximately a quarter of a mile from a state highway. All materials that could not be packed in by foot had to be flown in by helicopter.

Primoris  recorded over 575 hours of actual helicopter flight time with approximately 3,100 actual flights from the staging area to the pipeline alignment. A variety of aircraft were utilized from helicopters with a lift capacity of 1,200 pounds to Sky Cranes with a 17,000 pound lift capacity.
